This decision came during a meeting held by the committee on
Sunday, chaired by Talal Al-Nassour, and attended by the
Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Saleh Al-Kharabsheh, the ministry's secretary-general, Amani
Al-Azam, and the project manager in the ministry, Bahjat Al-Adwan, reported
Al-Mamlaka News.
Kharabsheh clarified that after the agreement was published
in the official gazette on June 2, 2015, the company did not implement any of
its contractual obligations despite the Energy and
Mineral Resources Ministry continuously
following up and urging them to abide by the agreement's provisions. The
company justified its inability to comply with the agreement due to
fluctuations in oil prices.
According to the provisions of Article 32 of the production
sharing agreement, the government cancelled the agreement within its powers
because the company failed to fulfill its commitments.
Kharabsheh called for verifying the seriousness of companies
interested in exploration and oil discovery by scrutinizing their previous experience
in this field.
