GAM Spokesperson Nasser Al-Rahamneh
said in remarks to
Jordan News that 95 percent of the plans for the new park,
which is designed after King Hussein Park in the western side of the capital,
but implementation was blocked due to the situation imposed by the pandemic.
The 53-dunum amusement park, which
was opened in 1987, was closed because its operational life came to an end
after 30 years serving the local community north Amman and the rest of the
city, along with the country’s guests, the official said, adding that the 18
games and other structures were dismantled and sold as junk.
Salem Al-Shammary used to visit
Jordan every summer “most of my Saudi friends used to spend their time there
and our children had unforgettable memories enjoying their time there.”
Rahamneh emphasized that the vendors
who had booths at the amusement park were not taken by surprise by the decision
to close down the facility. They were informed in advance that their contracts
would not be renewed, he explained.
The planned public park will feature
a football field, sport lanes for jogging and biking, in addition to green
spaces and a restaurant overlooking Jordan Street, a main inter-governorate
vein leading to Jerash and
Irbid.
Hamzah
A-Hajj Hassan, CEO of Amman Vision, a company which implements municipal
projects, underlined a shirtage3 in amusement and entertainment facilities in
Amman, which is inhabited by around four million people.
