AMMAN — On Tuesday, August 22, the minister of energy and
mineral resources, Saleh Al-Kharabsheh, affirmed that the ministry is
conducting several studies in collaboration with partners to achieve the
strategic objectives related to increasing reliance on local energy sources,
including renewable energy. This aligns with global trends of reducing carbon
footprint and mitigating climate change effects.

Al-Kharabsheh added, during his attendance at the concluding
workshop for the “The Study on the Jordanian Grid's Smart Options”, that their
aim is to integrate more renewable energy into the grid. This involves
increasing the contribution of renewable energy to 50 percent of electricity
generation by 2030 and raising its contribution to the overall energy mix,
Al-Ghad News reported.
Readiness of Jordan's electricity transmission
“The Study on the Jordanian Grid's Smart Options” evaluates
the readiness of Jordan's electricity transmission and distribution systems to
adopt advanced technologies and recommended measures to enhance the network's
capacity to integrate larger quantities of renewable energy. It focuses on
increasing the flexibility and reliability of the electrical network for
climate-related events, promoting digitalization, and updating the electrical
infrastructure in line with national priorities.
The study recommended taking actions to support the adoption
of advanced technologies and energy transformation in line with the
comprehensive Energy Sector Strategy 2020-2030 and the directions of the
Economic Reform Vision.
