These ATVs are intended to enhance the capabilities of the Tourist Police and the Royal Department of Environmental Protection in reserves and desert areas, strengthening oversight and law enforcement, particularly in forested sites and tourist areas.
The handover ceremony, attended by Major General Obaidullah Maaytah, Director of Public Security, and Yousef Issawi, Head of the Royal Hashemite Court and Chairman of the Committee to Follow Up on His Majesty’s Initiatives, highlighted the significance of these additions to the police force.
Jordan's environmental and tourism sectors have flourished under King Abdullah II’s reign, with numerous initiatives highlighting the nation’s diverse tourist and archaeological sites and boosting Jordan’s profile regionally and globally.
"His Majesty is dedicated to supporting these vital sectors," Issawi stated at the ceremony. "They are crucial to our national economy. The King has consistently emphasized the need to advance ecotourism and promote domestic tourism through various royal initiatives aimed at sustainable development in natural reserves and surrounding areas."
Issawi also mentioned the King’s vision for high-value tourism projects tailored to the unique characteristics of each region. These initiatives are designed to create job opportunities, support local communities, and improve living conditions through sustainable income sources.
Major General Maaytah emphasized that the new ATVs are part of the ongoing support from King Abdullah II to the Public Security Directorate.
"The introduction of ATVs will significantly enhance the operations of our specialized departments, such as the Tourist Police and the Royal Department of Environmental Protection. They will ensure easy access to rugged terrains, including mountainous, forested, and desert areas."
Jordan’s reserves, such as Wadi Rum and Ajloun Forest, are prime destinations for natural tourism, while the desert areas, with their sand dunes and oases, attract adventure tourism and desert car competitions.
