AMMAN —
The
Public Security Directorate (PSD) said Saturday it had arrested 51 who had
used firearms in the wake of the announcement of the Tawjihi (general secondary
education certificate examination) results on Thursday. It added that 55
firearms were seized in connection with the arrests, Al-Mamlaka TV reported.

The PSD, in a press statement, said that
investigations are ongoing to identify those who had used firearms on that day
and who had damaged property and threatened public safety.
The directorate stressed its intention to proceed
with the most forceful legal action against anyone found to be involved in
practices that included a violation of the law during Tawjihi celebrations.
On Thursday morning, a 20-year-old was killed by a
stray bullet in the Abu Nuseir area of Amman, according to Al-Mamlaka TV.
Security sources said that young man was walking in
the area when a stray bullet hit him; he was rushed to the hospital but was
pronounced dead.
Security personnel opened an investigation on the
incident, and are trying to find the shooter.
