During Tuesday’s session, which was chaired by Speaker
Abdul Karim Al-Doghmi and attended by
Cabinet ministers, some 17 lawmakers who
took the floor were unanimous in their demands for an economic recovery
strategy addressing the "chronic" budget deficit, indebtedness, and
rising unemployment and poverty, a roadmap to attract investment, better
services and wage raises for workers and pensioners.
MPs spoke of the need to forge ahead with political,
administrative, and economic reform programs with clear goals and a political
will to revamp the "administrative reality of institutions",
according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.
They also urged a reconsideration of the fuel pricing
mechanism, the introduction of comprehensive health insurance, a reduction of
water loss, improved health services, continued in-class education despite a
surge in coronavirus cases, support for the agricultural and tourism sectors, and
fairness in
Civil Service Commission appointments.
