AMMAN — On Monday, the Ministry of Industry, Trade, and
Supply announced that the prices of fresh chicken and chicken parts have seen a
significant decrease over the past two days.

According to the
ministry's statements, prices at the Amman slaughterhouse dropped from JD1.95
on Thursday to a range between JD1.75 to JD1.8, with the average price of
chicken parts reaching JD1.7. It noted the availability of numerous offers in
various shops and commercial centers, anticipating further decreases in chicken
prices in the upcoming days, Al-Ghad reported.
The ministry emphasized the continuation of regulatory
inspections in the markets, revealing that regulatory teams documented 89
violations during 116 inspection tours from March 7 to March 13, covering 2164
establishments. The total number of establishments visited since the beginning
of 2024 exceeded 19,000, with nearly 1023 violations recorded.
By monitoring the average consumer prices of 90 essential
commodities for the second week of March and comparing them with the average
prices of the same period last February, the ministry disclosed an increase in
11 commodities, primarily meats. These include local lamb by two percent, local
veal by four percent, local goat by five percent, Dubai lamb by four percent,
Brazilian vacuum-packed veal by seven percent, African veal by six percent, and
Indian veal by 10 percent, along with an increase in the prices of two types of
eggplant by 45 percent and 17 percent, respectively.
Furthermore, the ministry noted a decrease in prices of 26
commodities, notably medium grain rice by percentages ranging from four to 15
percent, with an average decrease of nine percent. Sugar decreased by two to
three percent, several varieties of sunflower oil decreased by percentages
ranging from three to 10 percent with an average decrease of six percent, two
types of ghee decreased by four to five percent, table eggs decreased by two
percent, and several varieties of vegetables, including local garlic by 15
percent and imported garlic by four percent, tomatoes by 12 percent, cucumbers
by 14 percent, potatoes by four percent, imported lemons by 42 percent, local
lemons by three percent, cauliflower by 13 percent, hot peppers by five
percent, and imported bananas by 10 percent. Meanwhile, the prices of 50
commodities remained stable, including dairy products, milk, most vegetable
oils, and long and medium grain rice.
