"The attack on Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, particularly Al-Aqsa Mosque/Al-Haram Al-Sharif, has not been and will not be tolerated and will be encountered with all diplomatic and legal means available," Prince Hassan said in a speech delivered on his behalf by Muhammad Hashem Ghosheh, Director of the Al-Hassan Bin Talal Center for Jerusalem Studies, at the "Property Documentation and the Historical Status of the Holy Al-Aqsa Mosque Conference" in Ramallah, West Bank.
His Highness indicated that "the conference comes at a time when the cycle of violence and attacks perpetrated by Israeli authorities in Jerusalem has increased," warning that "silence and continuation of these flagrant human rights violations will have grave consequences on the ground and threaten peace."
Prince El-Hassan also stressed the Hashemite custodianship of Jerusalem's holy places, saying that the holy city must live on in the minds and hearts of the nation.
