AMMAN —
HRH Princess Alia bint Al Hussein inaugurated a regional workshop discussing
the global target of protecting 30 percent of the world’s seas and oceans by
2030, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.

The workshop is
also discussing the conservation and sustainability of using marine
biodiversity in regions beyond national jurisdictions. It aims to unite all
stakeholders to develop recommendations for safeguarding the marine
environment.
The gathering is
sponsored by the Princess Alia Foundation, the Jordanian Ministry of
Environment, the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW), and The Pew
Charitable Trusts.
Princess Alia
emphasized the significance of the workshop, citing the COVID-19 pandemic as
evidence that the environment improves quickly when precautions are undertaken.
IFAW Program
Director Akram Issa Al-Darwish, said international organizations’ expansion of
cooperation with countries in the region underlines the importance of Arab
nations in supporting and guiding global policies, which are aimed at
preserving the natural biological resources that ensure the survival of the
human race.
