The elections,
which simulate the experience of the parliamentary, municipal, and provincial
council elections, were held in 51 development centers spread over governorates
across the Kingdom to select committee leaders from a pool of 106 candidates,
the center said in a statement.
Since the launch of
the registration process, on May 22 until its closure on June 30, the total
number of members who registered to join the youth committees reached 4,141 —
with 1,939 males and 2,202 females.
The elections were
held under the supervision of specialized committees in all centers in a
framework of transparency, integrity, and positivity between candidates and
voters, the statement said.
The youth
committees at Princess Basma Centers for Development aim to enhance youngsters’
actual and effective participation in the decision-making, support the
developmental role of JOHUD towards local communities, and contribute to their
development in the various fields, the statement noted.
Youth committees,
according to JOHUD’s vision, contribute significantly to the development of
societies by mobilizing and attracting young people to the centers’ work areas,
forming specialized work teams to design and implement volunteer and
development initiatives, and to help find solutions to the challenges facing
young people in those areas.
Spread over the
governorates and districts of the Kingdom, Princess Basma Centers for
Development constitute a forum for young people to exchange their ideas,
experiences, and successes.
It motivates them
to play a positive role in their societies and invest their energies and
innovative and pioneering ideas to contribute to finding appropriate solutions
to various societal issues, the statement said.
It is an attractive
and stimulating environment for young people and a platform for discovering
their talents and energies, it said.
At a time when the
Jordanian Hashemite Fund for Human Development (JOHUD) seeks to employ its
partnerships with various national institutions in the public and private
sectors, it extends tremendous importance to its centers, it said.
Those centers act
as incubators for Jordanian youth and their aspirations and play an essential
role in raising their awareness, developing their skills, and helping them plan
for their future, and civil society organizations employ them to serve young
people and their issues, according to the press release.
The committees also
participate in the implementation of projects and initiatives of the Jordanian
Hashemite Fund for Human Development (JOHUD), in addition to participating in
various events at the governorate and district levels, implementing field
visits, holding periodic meetings for youth, and raising their issues with the
participation of decision-makers and influencers, it said.
The idea of
elections of the leaders of youth committees at JOHUD’s centers was launched as
one of the recommendations of the first forum of youth committees, which was
held at the Dead Sea in 2012, under the patronage of HRH Princess Basma bint
Talal, Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of the Jordanian Hashemite Fund for
Human Development (JOHUD), the statement concluded.
