AMMAN —
Water Authority Secretary-General
Bashar Bataineh said the ministry’s priority is to reduce water loss, constant
violations on the network, and hold accountable those who attempt to tamper
with or use water illegally, Khaberni News reported.
In an inspection tour of several neighborhoods in
Salt to check the water situation there, Bataineh said Tuesday that efforts are
reassuring, despite the challenges posed to the water sector.
He said that there is a marked decrease in the
number of complaints from Salt and the rest of the regions regarding water
supply and network infractions.
In another development, the Ministry of Water and
Irrigation, in cooperation with the
Public Security Directorate, on Wednesday
identified new water theft cases in Um Ammad area in southern Amman, the Jordan
News Agency, Petra, reported.
The ministry said its teams removed illegal fixtures
on residential waterlines and referred the cases to the concerned authorities
for investigation and to apprehend the violators.
The attacks siphoned off hundreds of cubic meters of
potable water on a daily basis to irrigate green houses and fill ponds, the
ministry said in a statement on Wednesday.
