Data released by the
General Association For Foodstuffs Merchants (GAFM) shows that the goods imported from February 24 to
March 12 were mainly vegetable oils, sugar, rice, powdered milk, as well as
chilled and fresh meat and fish.
Jordan imports food worth nearly $4 billion
annually; part of the imports are raw materials for industry and
ready-for-consumption products, GAFM added.
Jordan’s food sector currently comprises 14,000 companies
countrywide, providing nearly 200,000 job opportunities; the majority occupied
by Jordanians, said GAFM.
