In a recent press statement, Awamleh emphasized that real estate
properties and residential buildings constructed within the past three decades
have been built in accordance with special codes designed to resist
earthquakes.
National Building CouncilHe added that after activating the Jordan National Building
Council, a committee was formed to monitor the construction of real estate and
housing projects to ensure that they comply with the necessary technical
procedures and codes.
This has significantly contributed to the overall safety of the
properties built in the country, he added.
However, Awamleh did call for a study to be conducted for old
buildings dating back to 70 years or more, particularly those built on unstable
soil or without suitable sewage systems.
Examples include those in the old eastern areas of Amman and Jabal
Al-Jofa. He emphasized the need for the maintenance of these buildings to be
monitored by engineering firms to ensure their structural integrity and safety.
Tax exemptFurthermore, Awamleh noted that throughout history, especially in
recent times, earthquakes that have occurred in nearby regions to Jordan and
have affected some Jordanian cities, but they did not have any significant
impact on the residential buildings and properties.
Awamleh also stressed the need to exempt earthquake-resistant
materials used in building towers and residential properties from taxes and
customs. This would make it easier for developers to incorporate these
materials in their projects, which would help to increase the overall safety of
buildings and properties in the country.
