AMMAN —
The Ministry of Water and Irrigation announced on Sunday that it will stop pumping of water from Disi for
six days, to carry out the periodic annual maintenance of the Disi water
system. As a result, water from the Disi
basin will not be pumped for the said period to Amman, Zarqa, and Balqa, local
media outlets reported.

According to the ministry, the stoppage will start
on November 27 and last until December 3, 2022.
It said that maintenance works will include the
facilities of the Disi system, in addition to the rehabilitation and
installation of new equipment at the Zai station, through a project aimed at
developing the operational system and improving the efficiency of the water
supply, financed by a grant provided by the Japan International Cooperation
Agency (JICA).
The ministry urged citizens to take the necessary
precautions and save enough quantities of water to last through the six days.
The Disi water project was built on a Build,
Operate, Transfer system, whereby the operating company undertakes to operate
the project, maintain all its facilities, and perform the necessary periodic
maintenance for the purpose of ensuring its efficiency and sustainability
throughout the year.
Areas affected by the cessation of water pumping in the
capital include Shmeisani, Tabarbour, Arjan, Sports City, Umm Uthaina, Rabieh,
Tla’ Al-Ali, Jabal Amman, Jabal Luweibdeh, Prince Hassan Suburb, Al-Aqsa
Suburb, Al-Istiklal Suburb, Jabal Al-Nasr, Al-Manara, Al-Marqab, Salhia Al-Abed
Al-Mughirat, Abu Sayah village, villages of Wadi Al-Seer, Al-Rabahiya, Umm
Al-Summaq, Al-Rawabi, Al-Bayader, Jandaweel, Al-Kursi, Khalda, Abdoun, Deir
Ghbar, Sweifieh, Dabouq, Dahiyat Al-Rasheed, Jubaiha, Shafa Badran, Abu Nseir,
Sweileh, Kamaliya, Abu Alanda, Marj Al-Hamam, Jasmine, Bunyat, Mqablain,
Qweismeh, Alalkoumiya, Sahab, Nozha Sahab, Umm Nawara, Al-Dhahibat,
Al-Faisaliah, Al-Mutawadah, Na’our, Abdaliah, Khashafieh Al-Dabayba, Juwaida,
Khraibet Al-Souq, Jabal Al-Zohour, Al-Yadoudeh Hatimia, Al-Laban (Al-Tanib,
Al-Rahmaniya housing), Al-Naqirah, Al-Bouaidah, Umm Batma, Haji Hassan suburb,
Al-Qastal, Giza district.
