AMMAN — The General Statistics Department has unveiled its
quarterly estimates, revealing an impressive economic performance in the first
quarter of 2023. The Gross Domestic Product (GDP) experienced a significant
growth rate of 2.8 percent at constant market prices, signaling an increase of
0.8 percentage, compared to the first quarter of 2022.
This surge surpassed the previous quarter's growth rate of 2
percent. Hala News reported. Accordingly, all sector of the economy
demonstrated positive growth during Q1 2023 compared to the same period last
year.
Leading the charge was the agriculture, hunting, forestry,
and fishing sector, which witnessed a growth rate of 7.4 percent. This sector's
remarkable performance contributed a substantial 0.38 percentage points to the
overall growth achieved.
Not far behind, the construction sector experienced robust
growth at a rate of 5.9 percent, making a significant contribution of 0.14
percentage points.
The transport, storage, and communication sector also
experienced a notable upswing, with a growth rate of 4.8 percent and a
significant contribution of 0.42 percentage points. Furthermore, the extraction
industries sector displayed a solid growth rate of 3.5 percent, contributing
0.10 percentage points to the overall achieved growth rate.
