AMMAN — Overall
unemployment rates in Jordan fell 0.2 percent in the second quarter of 2021 compared to the beginning of the year, Al-Ghad News reported on Tuesday.

The unemployment rate currently stands at 24.8 percent. However, according to the Department of Statistics, that number is 1.9 percentage higher than the second quarter of 2020.
Unemployment rates among men during the second quarter of 2021 increased by around 1.2 percent, standing at 22.7 percent, and increased 4.5 percent among women, standing at 33.1 percent, compared to the second quarter of 2020.
However, when comparing the unemployment rate for the second quarter of 2021 with the first quarter of the year, unemployment among men decreased by 1.5 percent and rose by 4.6 percentage points for women.
The unemployed
According to Al-Ghad News, unemployment rates were high among university degree holders, with 31.1 percent of university degree holders being unemployed.
The results also indicated that 56.7 percent of those in the total unemployment rate had secondary
education degrees, and 43.3 percent of the total unemployed held lower educational qualifications.
Levels of unemployment among those who held a degree also varied significantly, with men who held a bachelor’s degree having an unemployment rate of 31.2 percent, compared to women at 83.4 percent.
Youth unemployment rates (15–24 year olds) accounted for 48.5 percent of the total (43.6 percent for men, 71.6 percent for women).
At the governorate level, the highest unemployment rate was recorded in Balqa, which had an unemployment rate of 28.2 percent, while
Karak had the lowest with 15.7 percent.
