AMMAN — Queen
Alia International Airport (QAIA) received 5,139,090 passengers during the
first 8 months of 2022, a 103.9 percent increase compared with the same period
of 2021 and a decrease of 16.6 percent compared to 2019, according to
statistics issued by the Airport International Group, Al-Mamlaka TV reported.

Aircraft movement, which numbered 45,849, registered
an increase of 74.5 percent over 2021 and a 15.9 percent decrease compared to
2019.
Air freight traffic reached 40,378 tonnes, 13.9
percent higher than in 2021, and 39.6 percent less then in 2019.
During August, the number of passengers at QAIA
reached 942,286, a 41.6 percent growth from 2021 and a 10.5 percent decrease
compared to 2019.
The airport witnessed 6,945 aircraft operations in
August, a 21.8 percent increase over 2021, and an 18.8 percent decrease
compared to the same month of 2019. Air freight traffic in August amounted to
6,007 tonnes, a 0.2 percent increase over 2021, and a 27 percent decrease
compared to 2019.
Airport International Group CEO Nicolas Claude said
that “while the August statistics indicate some improvement, ... the numbers remain lower than those recorded
in 2019”.
