Director of the Karak Agriculture Directorate, Misbah Al-Tarawneh,
said the amount of rain over the past few days positively impacted various
crops and increased irrigation capability for others. It also gave Karak
livestock farmers hope of alleviating dependence on feed, reported the Jordan
News Agency, Petra.
Various farmers have voiced their relief and dispelled concerns
over the agricultural sector regarding drought risk. The current season
promotes the growth of plants and natural pastures. It also enhances water
stocks in dams and hafirs (artificially constructed water catchment basins)
and, generally, has a positive impact on groundwater stocks.
Tarawneh added that the quantity of rainfall over the past few days
was good compared to last year, adding that Karak got a total of 69mm compared
to 24mm last year.
The Southern Maraz area of Karak received 68mm of rain compared to
24mm last year, he added.
Tarawneh also called on farmers to use sunny days to continue
growing field crops.
