In a statement carried by the Jordan News
Agency, Petra, the ministry said that the rainy season has totaled 2.2 percent
of the country’s annual average precipitation, and that rainfall can take
between 24 and 48 hours to collect in dams.
The ministry called on citizens to take
advantage of the rain by collecting as much of it as possible, and to avoid waste-dumping
in valley streams in order to preserve surface and ground water.
The highest amount of rainfall over the
last 24 hours was registered in Ajloun, around 70km northwest of Amman, and the
lowest was recorded in Maan, some 218 km south of the capital, while the port
city of Aqaba witnessed no rainfall, according to the ministry.
The ministry’s figures showed that
Mujib Dam received the largest amount of water after the latest rainfall, with 65,000
cubic meters, followed by King Talal Dam with 60,000 cubic meters, Wadi Al-Arab
Dam with 19,000 cubic meters, and Al-Wehdah Dam with 11,000 cubic meters.
