AMMAN — The
Ministry of Finance on Tuesday announced
that the number of imported and cleared hybrid cars increased by 76 percent
until June 20, compared to a 48.3-percent increase during the same period in
2020, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Disputing media reports, the ministry added that the import
and clearance of hybrid cars during the first half of the year exceeded the
number of imports before the COVID-19 pandemic two years ago.
On Monday, head of the
Jordanian Free Zone Investor Association, Muhammad Al-Bustanji told the press that the monthly average of
hybrid vehicle clearance has dropped by more that 50 percent in 2021, compared
to the monthly clearance average in 2020.
In a press statement on Monday, Bustanji indicated that the
monthly clearance rate of hybrid cars during 2020 stood at some 1,600 vehicles,
in comparison to a monthly average of 650 vehicles during 2021. He added that
the drop in the clearance of vehicles with hybrid engines was due to the hike
of taxes levied on them from 5 percent to 45 percent.
