Indicated by its title, the study aimed to reveal the
effectiveness of a counseling program based on the cognitive-behavioral
approach in improving the level of adaptation and reducing future anxiety among
children in Jordanian children's villages. The results demonstrated the ability
of the counseling program applied in this study to improve the level of
adaptation on all dimensions (psychological, family, social and academic), and
reduce future anxiety on all dimensions (social, family, economic,
psychological, and academic) among the children of the
Jordanian Children's Villages (SOS).
Distinguishing factors and recommendations
What distinguishes Azzeh’s study from others is that it
relied on the use of both the adaptation scale and the future anxiety scale,
which have not been previously studied in combination. Furthermore, Azzeh added
new topics to the counseling program that previous studies did not address.
It is also considered one of the only studies applied to the
children of the Jordanian SOS Children’s Villages. The study expressed the
importance of developing counseling programs and recommended applying the
counseling program and the tools that were developed throughout this study to
the children in care homes of the
Jordanian Ministry of Social Development.
Royal directives
The discussion committee consisted of Prof. Intisar Al-Smadi
as supervisor, Prof. Ibrahim Maali as head of the discussion committee, Prof.
Suhaila Banat as an external discussant from
Amman Arab University, and Dr.
Fatima Al-Talaheen. One of the reasons that prompted the researcher to carry
out his study were the royal directives to pay attention to orphans and the
like who lack family support and find solutions to deal with the challenges
they face to empower them and integrate them into society as well as support
the Jordanian
Children's Villages into this direction.
It is worth noting
that the
Jordanian SOS Children's Villages Association provides alternative
care for children who lack family support, and also provides support for young
men and women up to the age of 24 to help them reach the stage of independence.
They cover various aspects of housing, food security, education, health and
psychological care, empowerment, economic security, protection, and community
integration in a warm family atmosphere.
