AMMAN — President of the
Jordan Union of Restaurants and Confectionery Proprietors (JURCP) Omar Al-Awwad, denied raising
the prices of meals in “local popular” restaurants following complaints from
customers, stressing that the prices remain as they are without any change,
according to Jo24.

Awwad added that restaurants would be legally accountable
if they set prices higher than those approved by the Income and Sales Tax Department;
the
Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Supply; and the union.
More than 250 restaurants in Amman have shut down since the start of the
year due to a decline in sales and purchase power, according to Awwad, who
warned of more imminent closures.
