AMMAN — The president of the
General Association for Restaurants and Sweet Shops Owners, Omar Al-Awad, stated that the sector is
currently experiencing a recession, with a 60 percent decline in sales. He
reiterated his demand for a reconsideration of the price list by
raising prices for citizens.

Awad attributed the decline to the high temperatures
experienced in Jordan, which makes residents stay indoors more often, as well
as the failure of price lists to meet rising inflation, which burdens
restaurant owners, Khaberni News reported.
Unprofitable pricing
According to Awad, the Ministry of Industry, Trade, and
Supply did not heed the demands from restaurants regarding the modification of
the price list, pointing out that it has not been revised for years.
He mentioned that he has repeatedly tried to meet with the
Ministry of Industry to discuss the issue, given the inflation in production
costs, which can reach up to 40 percent.
He explained that restaurant owners may resort to raising
their prices, even if it means paying taxes, considering it a way to alleviate
the high costs they face.
