AMMAN — The
Ministry of Agriculture said on Tuesday
that a recent increase in the prices of vegetables was due to a shortage in the
quantities that were delivered to the central market during the cold front, and
not due to exports, according to a statement carried by Al-Rai News.

The ministry said that the quantities of
vegetables and
fruits delivered to the markets on Wednesday amounted to 3,154 tonnes, compared
to 2,300 tonnes per day on average during the past two weeks, a result of a
rise in temperatures, which contributed to the increase in production
quantities.
The ministry said that it will coordinate with the
Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Supply about any unjustified rise in prices. With the increase in production, prices will witness a
gradual drop, the ministry said in the statement.
