Separately, Safadi also met with his Romanian
counterpart, Bogdan Aurescu, and several other Romanian officials. Discussions
focused on ways to deepen cooperation between the two countries, which share a
strong historical relationship, within the EU partnership framework.
Safadi’s visit is part of Jordan’s efforts to expand
bilateral cooperation, primarily in the political, economic, tourism,
educational, energy, and security fields.
Ahead of the meeting, Aurescu tweeted: “I look
forward to receiving my friend and colleague, Minister Ayman Safadi, in
Bucharest on Tuesday, to follow up on our dialogue after my visit to Amman last
year.”
Following his talks in Bucharest, Safadi said there
was an opportunity to deepen cooperation and develop the relationship with
Romania, where the number of grants to Jordanian students in the field of
medicine will be increased from 10 to 26.
Safadi reiterated Romania’s commitment to supply
wheat to Jordan, noting that Romania is Jordan’s largest wheat supplier.
“We have agreed on an additional round of political
discussions as soon as possible, which would provide a mechanism for periodic
examination of cooperation that identifies broader opportunities,” Safadi said
in a statement.
He said it was also agreed
to “hold meetings of consular services to facilitate the granting of visas to
Romania to assist the business sectors in both countries.”
