AMMAN —
Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi emphasized the urgency of "immediate" actions
to facilitate Syrian refugees' voluntary return during a discussion with UN
High Commissioner for Refugees,
Filippo Grandi. Safadi stressed that refugees'
future lies in Syria and urged the UN to intensify efforts to ensure their
return and decent living conditions.

According to him, creating conditions for refugees' return remains a top
priority for Jordan, which is committed to collaborative efforts. Safadi and
Grandi evaluated discussions between Jordan,
UNHCR, the Syrian government, and
the global community to establish infrastructure for refugees' services and
economic needs, the Jordan News Agency, Petra reported.
Establish a model for refugee return
Safadi proposed collaborating with Syria and the international community
to establish a model for refugee return, advocating for an
international fund to develop return infrastructure and meet refugees' needs.
He also warned about the consequences of dwindling international support
for refugees and host countries, highlighting Jordan's overextended capacity.
He
underscored that refugees' welfare is a joint responsibility between host
nations and the global community, mentioning that funding for Jordan's 2023
refugee response plan was less than 6.8 percent.
Jordan, home to approximately 1.3 million
Syrian refugees, including a
mere 10 percent in camps.
