Amman – The Senate's Labor and Social Development Committee, chaired by Senator Issa Haider Murad, met on Thursday with a delegation from the International Labor Organization (ILO).

The ILO delegation included Kristen Shapira, an expert on international labor standards and head of the Arab region office, along with Reem Aslan, the organization's representative in Jordan.
Senator Murad stated that the meeting aimed to discuss international labor standards and explore ways to strengthen cooperation with the ILO, particularly in promoting occupational safety programs and developing policies that foster decent work environments for men, women, and people with disabilities.
He emphasized Jordan's commitment to international labor standards, having ratified several agreements and recommendations that protect workers' rights and improve working conditions.
Murad also noted that a high-level Jordanian tripartite committee is working to align with evolving labor standards by amending key legislation, including labor laws, social security regulations, and child protection policies.
ILO Representative Reem Aslan highlighted the organization's role in monitoring labor market developments in countries that have ratified international labor standards, ensuring that policies and regulations align with occupational safety and social justice goals.
Kristen Shapira stated that the meeting provided an opportunity for dialogue on Jordan's efforts in upholding international labor standards and reviewing occupational health and safety policies. She commended Jordan's leadership in ratifying key agreements and implementing policies that enhance workplace conditions.
Shapira also emphasized that Jordan's Economic Modernization Vision represents a significant step toward strengthening labor standards, demonstrating the country's commitment to best practices in occupational health and safety. She noted that the ILO continues to collaborate with member states to develop global labor standards, including efforts to combat child labor in certain regions, in line with labor market needs.
