AMMAN (JNews) —
The Senate Joint Legal and Freedoms and Citizens Rights Committee endorsed a
draft amending the National Center for Human Rights (NCHR) law, as passed by
the Lower House, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.
The Legal
Committee, headed by Senator Ahmad Tbeishat, and the Committee on Freedoms and
Citizens’ Rights, headed by Senator Mahmoud Abu Jumaa, approved the bill during
a meeting Tuesday attended by Minister of State for Legal Affairs Wafaa Bani
Mustafa.
The amendment took
into consideration the importance of the roles entrusted to the NCHR chairman
of the board of trustees, and the commissioner general, and reasserted the need
for their neutrality and fairness.
It is also meant
to enshrine the principles of objectivity and nonpartisan to prevent conflict
of interest and the influence of partisan and ideological affiliation on the
leadership of the center.
