Chairing a meeting of the Senate's Jordanian-US Parliamentary Friendship Committee, Fayez, with US Ambassador to the Kingdom, Henry Wooster, discussed Jordan's ongoing reform process across political, economic, and administrative spheres.
The reforms aim to implement the directives and vision of His Majesty King Abdullah, with a focus on strengthening parliamentary and party life, establishing parliamentary governments, promoting popular participation, and empowering women and youth.
Addressing economic challenges and promoting development
The reform process in Jordan seeks to enable the country to confront economic challenges, reduce poverty and unemployment, enhance the investment environment, and provide the "best" services to its citizens.
These efforts are expected to lead to sustainable and comprehensive development.
Fayez highlighted the endeavors of His Majesty King Abdullah to bring an end to conflicts in the region and restore security and stability.
He also stressed the crucial role of the US and other countries involved in the peace process in halting hostile operations carried out by the Israeli occupation army and settlers against the Palestinian people, particularly under the extreme right-wing Israeli government.
Fayez specifically mentioned the recent attack on Jenin city and its camp.
Jordan's 'unwavering' stance
During the meeting, Fayez reaffirmed Jordan's rejection of any solutions to the Palestinian issue that compromise the Kingdom's "unwavering" national interests.
He emphasized the country's commitment to preserving the Hashemite Custodianship over Jerusalem's Islamic and Christian holy sites and maintaining their legal and historical status quo.
Expressing gratitude for the aid provided by the US, Fayez called on Washington to increase its assistance to help Jordan face economic challenges arising from regional developments.
He emphasized the pivotal role played by Jordan in achieving peace and stability in the region, as well as its commitment to caring for refugees within its territories.
Historic relations and future partnership
In his remarks, US Ambassador Wooster acknowledged the solid and historic relations between the US and Jordan.
He highlighted the distinguished and unparalleled nature of the bilateral ties, particularly after the signing of a seven-year "strategic" partnership agreement, which is the longest pact in the history of the two friendly nations.
Ambassador Wooster expressed Washington's view of Jordan as its closest partner in the world. He emphasized the US' keenness to further develop partnership relations with Jordan, particularly in the economic and investment aspects, to serve common interests.
The US envoy acknowledged the economic and security challenges faced by Jordan due to regional crises, the COVID-19 pandemic, and the impact of the Russian-Ukrainian war on the prices of energy and food commodities.
