Senators shot down
an amendment by MPs to reduce the proportion of youth (those aged 18–35) and
women required in a political party from the original 20 percent to 10 percent.
The Senate also
lowered the requirement for quorum at political party conferences from “one
third” to “a majority”.
Additionally,
Senators rejected the Lower House’s decision to extend the deadline for
existing parties to rectify their legal status with the new legislation to 18
months, instead of one year as proposed by the
government in the draft law’s
original text.
