AMMAN — Lawmaker and former president of the
Bar Association Saleh Al-Armouti criticized the Senate’s stand in opposition to the
constitutional amendment that was passed by the Lower House reducing lawmakers’
and senators’ shares in corporations down to 2 percent, according to Jo24.

Armouti described the Senate’s position as “regrettable” and
“stemming from underlying personal interests” and said he had expected the
Senate to take a different position “and to get heated out of concern for the
interests of the nation.” The Senate had
returned the amended article to the House for revision.
Armouti said the
House will discuss the amendment in its next session.
