AMMAN —
Minister of Industry, Trade, and Supply Yousef Al-Shamali held talks with the regional representative
of the US Ministry of Agriculture, Elizabeth Melo, including about cooperation to
enhance food security, according to Al-Mamlaka TV.

Shamali issued a statement commending
the continuous support the US offers Jordan, which helps it prop up its economy
and face many challenges, and called on the US to renew the wheat grant
agreement this year.
The minister said the
US is a key trade
partner to Jordan, a partnership that got a boost when Jordan and the US signed
the free trade agreement.
Shamali also met with the Romanian
Minister of Agriculture
Adrian Chesnoiu, with whom he discussed economic
cooperation, food security, increasing bilateral trade, and encouraging their
respective private sector to strike investment partnerships that serve the
interests of both countries.
Romania is considered a key export
market; Jordan imports wheat, barley, meat, and livestock from
Romania, said
Shamali, stressing the importance of the economic cooperation and the need to
take advantage of the opportunities the two countries offer.
Chesnoiu reiterated his country’s
interest in expanding economic cooperation with Jordan, especially in food
security, trade, investment, exchange of expertise, etc.
