AMMAN —
Media spokesperson for the
Social Security Corporation (SSC), Shaman Al-Majali,
explained the reasoning for his institution demanding its beneficiaries to
repay a JD500 advance they received during the COVID-19 pandemic, according to
Al-Ghad News.

The amount was paid
in three installments to beneficiaries during the pandemic, when many
Jordanians lost income as a result of stringent lockdowns which brought
economic activity to a virtual standstill.
Majali explained
that the SSC updated its application recently, adding new services. One of the
additions is a page for “financial dues,” where subscribers saw the JD500.
He clarified that the
amount is due for repayment when a person reaches the retirement age, then the
amount must be paid either in full, or in installments. If installments, there
will be an interest added to the basic amount.
