This project aims to improve the solid waste management system in Amman by promoting waste sorting at the source, aligning with national strategic waste management objectives, the Jordan News Agency, Petra reported. The municipality's objectives include ensuring timely waste removal, reducing waste collection costs, and extending the Ghabawi landfill's lifespan.

Suzan Abu Jarada, a GAM council member, emphasizes the project's role as a crucial component of Amman's comprehensive solid waste management plan. This plan, endorsed in the municipality's 2022-2026 strategic plan, reflects the implementation of royal directives.

Enhancing quality of life and environmental preservation
Furthermore, the project's primary focus is on enhancing the quality of life and environmental preservation. It involves the development of a new solid waste management plan for Amman, aligning with the municipality's long-term vision to eliminate the current use of containers and effectively manage these underutilized resources, which currently pose a disposal burden.

Additionally, the Municipality of Amman has been utilizing organic waste for several years to generate electricity at the Ghabawi landfill. This process involves extracting natural methane gas produced by waste and converting it into clean energy, which powers various municipal facilities.

This phase follows the successful launch of the experiment in Zahran and Al-Madina, with plans to expand it to other areas in the future. Additionally, awareness programs are being conducted to educate citizens about the critical importance of sorting solid waste in their homes. Special bags and electric vehicles are being provided to facilitate waste collection at specific times, ensuring effective recycling and utilization.
