CAPE TOWN – On Monday,
Zwelivelile "Mandla" Mandela, the grandson of late South African
leader Nelson Mandela, stated that South Africa's legal team will pursue the
case it filed before the
International Court of Justice (ICJ), but it is awaiting
the report that Israel will present within a month to determine the available
options to continue the case.

In an
exclusive interview with Al-Jazeera, Mandela stated that
South Africa “will
explore other ways” to bring justice to Gaza, such as the
International Criminal Court (ICC), Security Council, and the General Assembly, Jo24
reported.
“The
war on the
Gaza Strip is a clear example of Western imperialism and its
hypocrisy,” Mandela added. “They did not impose sanctions on the apartheid
state of Israel and did not issue an arrest warrant against its Prime Minister
Benjamin Netanyahu and his
war criminals.”
He also
pointed to the strong historical relationship between his grandfather and the
Palestinian cause, which was documented in his relations with the late
Palestinian leader, Yasser Arafat, and when he said that “our freedom is not
complete without the freedom of the Palestinian people.”
Drawing
parallels between his own experience under
apartheid in South Africa and the
current situation in Palestine, Mandela offered advice to the Palestinian
resistance. He stressed the importance of unity, coordinated efforts, and
diverse forms of resistance, including civil society protests, diplomatic
engagement, and boycotts.
"The
struggle for liberation is fought on many fronts," he asserted, citing the
Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement as a model for achieving
Palestinian freedom.
Furthermore,
Mandela announced an upcoming international campaign to mark the
anniversary of Nelson Mandela's release from prison on February 11. He called on the global
community to honor his grandfather’s legacy by raising the Palestinian flag at
his statues around the world, symbolizing
solidarity with the Palestinian people.
