AMMAN — The
Jordan Standards and Metrology Organization confirmed that it has specialized laboratories for examining olive
oil, Khaberni reported.

The laboratories unit conducts four types of olive oil
tests upon request. It examines the composition of fatty acids to check for any
fraud attempts, which is the only test capable of detecting that olive oil has
been mixed with other vegetable substances or oils.
The unit also conducts a peroxide value test, which
measures the rancidity of the oil, and an acidity test, which is used to judge
if the olive oil is good for human consumption.
The unit also conducts sensory, smell and taste, evaluations to judge
the quality of the oil, the organization said.
