AMMAN — Tuesday
will see a lifting of the nationwide curfew for individuals who have received
both vaccine doses against
COVID-19, or had their first shot at least 21 days
earlier.

These new
regulations — issued as Circular 38 under Defense Orders 19 and 27 — constitute
part of the
Kingdom's gradual reopening plans, which first took effect with the
June 1 reopening of several sectors, including gyms and cinemas.
The circular also
stipulated that restaurants and cafes will be allowed to serve shisha in outdoor
spaces starting Tuesday.
Such measures are
contingent on individuals showing identification, proof of vaccination, or a
health verification certificate, with the failure to comply being punishable by
a JD20-50 fine.
In addition,
curfew permits, which exempt certain individuals from adhering to the
nationwide curfew, will now require that their holder be registered under
Jordan’s vaccination platform: vaccine.jo.
As the vaccine rollout
continues across the country — with over 2 million doses already administered —
many are growing tired of curfew restrictions and experiencing COVID-19 caution
fatigue.
“I received my
first dose of the vaccine in May and I am very excited for the curfew to be
lifted. It feels like a big step towards a normal that we did not appreciate
enough,” 21-year-old Aya Quran told Jordan
News.
“I am excited to have more freedom, but it’s
definitely going to feel strange not having that structure. I got used to coming
home at 11,” said 20-year-old Aliya Boshnak.
Opening up has
also entailed the gradual reopening of the tourism sector. Jordan has recently
declared the Dead Sea a tourism-safe zone — a move that is expected to revive
the industry and attract locals and foreigners alike.
The easing of
restrictions is expected to continue over the coming months. As of now, July 1
will likely see the reduction of curfew hours to 12am and 1am for businesses
and unvaccinated individuals, respectively. The complete elimination of partial
and total curfews across the country is currently scheduled to take effect on
September 1.
