AMMAN — The
State Security Court (SSC) commenced proceedings on Tuesday against nine individuals
accused of the tragic killing of four police officers during a riot in a town
near Maan, Jordan, in December last year.

In mid-December 2022, Col.
Abdelrazzaq Dalabeeh,
posthumously promoted to brigadier, was fatally shot while on duty. He was part
of a security operation aimed at restoring order in the Al-Husseinieh district
of Maan, as stated in a police report at that time.
On December 19, during a
raid on the suspects' hideout,
three additional officers lost their lives.
The fallen officers were identified as Captain Ghaith
Rahahleh, Second Lt. Mutaz Najada, and Corporal Ibrahim Shaqarin.
Charges faced by the defendants
Of the nine defendants, one is still at large and will be
tried in absentia.
The accused individuals are facing a range of severe
charges, including orchestrating terrorist acts, being members of an
organization with the intention of committing acts of terrorism against
Jordanian citizens, possessing weapons for terrorist activities, and
participating in terrorist and armed factions.
Moreover, the defendants are being charged with
conspiracy to carry out acts of terror and spreading the ideologies of a terrorist
organization, among other serious allegations.
Defendants plead not guilty
When questioned about the charges, all defendants pleaded
not guilty.
The court has decided to proceed with the trial for the
absent defendant. The next court hearing is scheduled for July 4 of this year.
