The owner of the sheep demanded that the
authorities come up with a solution to
the problem of stray dogs, considering them
a threat to his livelihood.
The authorities, he said, had demanded that
he refrain from selling any meat left over from the slaughtered sheep, out of
fears that the dogs may be carrying dangerous diseases.
Official measuresOn Monday, Deputy Prime Minister and
Minister of Local Administration Tawfiq Kreishan said that the issue of
stray dogs in Jordan is a “concerning problem” and that the ministry is giving it
great attention.
While it is not possible to establish a
shelter for stray dogs in every municipality, as it would be financially
difficult due to the number of municipalities, the ministry is working in
coordination with donor countries to
establish one shelter to serve every three
to four municipalities, Kreishan said.
For months, Jordanians have been taking to
social media platforms to call on the government to address the problem of
attacks by stray dogs.
