AMMAN – The Jordan Standards and Metrology
Organization (JSMO) announced on Sunday, that it will commence the verification
of taxi meters operating within the Greater Amman Municipality boundaries, in
accordance with the newly approved tariff by the municipality. As per the new
tariff, the initial meter fare will be 370 fils, the per-kilometer rate will be
260 fils, and the waiting tariff will be 260 fils for every 35 seconds during the
morning period. Notably, adjustments have been made to the nighttime tariff,
setting the starting fare ("initial meter") at 380 fils, with a
calculation of 320 fils per kilometer, and 320 fils for every 35 seconds as the
nighttime waiting tariff.

In a statement on Sunday, the organization
announced that its metrological verification center in Marka will be open to
receive taxi cars from 8am to 8pm, Al-Mamlaka TV reported.
The center is designed as a spacious and
advanced station for examining taxi meters, featuring six lanes to facilitate
the simultaneous verification of six vehicles.
The Foundation emphasized that the meter
verification process for each vehicle will not exceed five minutes, with a
daily capacity of approximately 500 vehicles.
Meters that have been adjusted according to
the new tariff will be clearly marked for monitoring purposes. Daily statistics
on the adjusted vehicles will be provided to the Public Transport Operations
Department of the GAM. Additionally, a grace period of two weeks will be
granted to all taxi cars operating within the municipality's jurisdiction to
rectify their status in compliance with the new tariff.
