Sarayrah said that the committee had received dozens
of complaints from parents about teachers being assigned to teach subject
matter outside their area of expertise. Examples included the appointment of
teachers who had studied chemistry and biology to teach physics, and vice versa,
which affected the students’
education.
The lawmaker said that the committee wants vacancies
to be filled with qualified personnel. He also called on the ministry to
refrain from filling those vacancies with staff who have different
specializations, especially for students closer to graduating.
The ministry is set to fill 4,000
vacancies soon,
according to the deputy, who added that there the Education Ministry actually
requires about 16,000 teachers.
