Dr. Abdul Aziz Al-Adwan, Deputy Director-General of the Baptism Site Commission, told the Jordan News Agency (Petra) that, following royal directives, the site has become a focal point for religious services from various countries around the world.
Al-Adwan noted that the Baptism Site visitor center and museum have been renovated, featuring interpretive panels that tell the story of the site's discovery and highlight its religious and historical significance.
This forms the starting point for visitors to learn about the site, archaeological findings, and their importance, particularly the ancient churches built in remembrance of the baptism of Christ, as well as Tel Mar Elias, the Wadi Kharrar, the Pilgrims' Station, and part of the mosaic map found in St. George's Church in Madaba, which are considered some of the most important material archaeological evidence of the Baptism Site.
He added that the center includes several panels discussing the most prominent visitors to the site, including religious figures, heads of state, and kings, in addition to display cabinets showcasing important archaeological discoveries made at the site during excavations that were revealed in 1995, following the signing of the peace agreement.
