The session also included the presence of Prime Minister Jaafar Hsan and other members of the government team.

Members of parliament emphasized the need to support the Audit Bureau legally to enable it to fully carry out its tasks.

They also stressed the importance of improving oversight on public funds and turning the violations mentioned in the report over to the judiciary.

They called for broader powers for the Audit Bureau, granting its employees judicial authority and expanding its oversight over public shareholding companies, regardless of the government’s share in them.

The members further emphasized the need to focus on administrative corruption, in addition to financial corruption, and called for enhancing internal monitoring within all ministries and institutions.

In response to the members' interventions, Minister of Political and Parliamentary Affairs, Abed Al-Moneim Al-Adat, acknowledged the efforts made by the Audit Bureau to release its 2023 report, noting that it operates independently from the government and serves as a regulatory arm of the parliament.

He also mentioned that the government’s committee tasked with correcting the violations in the Audit Bureau's report would ensure that the outcomes of this process are presented to the parliamentary Finance Committee, which will further oversee it.

The parliament also discussed and approved the referral of several draft laws to the relevant committees:

The 2024 amendments to the Social Security Law to the Labor Committee.

The 2024 amendments to the Law on Organizing the Profession of Surveying and Real Estate Offices to the Legal Committee.

The 2024 Agricultural Risk Mitigation Fund Law to the Agriculture Committee.

The 2024 General Statistics Law to the Economy and Investment Committee.

Each of these laws addresses specific areas of reform, such as enhancing social security coverage and providing better support for agricultural risks.

The laws also aim to improve data collection, management, and analysis in line with global standards to aid decision-making processes.
