Amman, The Regional Development Forum for the Arab States region and the preparatory regional meeting for the Arab States' contribution to the 25th World Telecommunication Development Conference (WTDC) were launched today, Monday, in Amman. The event is hosted by the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (TRC) in cooperation with the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and the ITU Regional Office for Arab States.

The forum, which will last for three days, aims to provide a platform for dialogue, collaboration, and partnership building among policymakers, regulators, industry representatives, academic institutions, and regional and international development agencies and organizations.
During the forum, a report will be presented regarding the results of implementing the recommendations of the Telecommunication Development Conference and the progress made in achieving the regional initiatives of Arab countries approved by the conference.
Minister of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship, Sami Samirate, stated that Jordan is committed to enhancing digital transformation through the implementation of a comprehensive national plan aimed at improving digital infrastructure, fostering innovation, and developing a sustainable business environment.
He added that Jordan continues to strengthen its innovation ecosystem, which has successfully attracted global IT companies to establish operations in the Kingdom. In the field of entrepreneurship, Jordan is considered a regional leader in innovation since the 1980s and has produced many successful entrepreneurial projects on both regional and global levels.
Engineer Bassam Al-Sarhan, Chairman of the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission, noted that the forum's theme reflects the urgent need to harness the power of digital technology to address global and regional challenges, expand connectivity, bridge the digital divide, foster innovation, and build more resilient and sustainable communities. He emphasized that Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is a key pillar of comprehensive and sustainable development.
Dr. Cosmas Zavazava, Director of the Telecommunication Development Bureau at the ITU, remarked that the Arab region has achieved significant progress in the telecommunications and ICT sectors in recent years. He pointed out that the forum will play a critical role in enhancing partnerships and cooperation and building a strong foundation for the 25th World Telecommunication Development Conference.
Barbara Manzi, Regional Director of the United Nations Development Coordination Office for Arab States, highlighted the rapid development of technology and its growing role in improving the well-being of people worldwide. She called for collective efforts and joint work to harness modern technologies for development.
Dr. Khaled Wali, Director of the ICT Development Department at the League of Arab States, emphasized the importance of ICT across various sectors in Arab countries, including education, health, economy, transportation, disaster risk reduction, and mitigating the impacts of climate change. He stressed that the ICT sector needs more investments to develop infrastructure, close the digital gap between urban and rural areas, and complete digital transformation processes.
