Guterres stated that the land route is the only way to deliver aid to Gaza,
which is in dire need of assistance, calling on Israel to remove obstacles to

During
a press conference with Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sameh Shoukry, in
Cairo, he stated, “The only
effective and efficient way to deliver heavy goods to meet Gaza’s humanitarian
needs is by road and includes an exponential increase in commercial
deliveries.”
Guterres highlighted that Gaza is experiencing
a ‘humanitarian catastrophe’, adding that there is no justification for
collective punishment of the Palestinians in Gaza. He further reiterated his
call for an immediate ceasefire for humanitarian reasons.
He also noted that the Security Council has
‘geopolitical divisions’ hindering it from making meaningful decisions.
Additionally, Guterres emphasized that assaulting the dignity of Palestinians
creates a credibility crisis for the international community.
He called for enhancing UNRWA's ability to
fulfill its role towards Palestinians and for commitment to UN values, noting
that many UNRWA workers in Gaza have been killed. He also emphasized that
Israeli accusations against the UN do not affect its work and that the UN
operates based on values and principles.
