AMMAN —
Candidates in the municipal and provincial elections will be charged JD1,000 by
the Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) as a refundable deposit to ensure that
they abide by campaigning rules, according to Al-Ghad News.

GAM spokesman
Nasser Al-Rahamneh said the municipality’s role is to ensure that candidates
follow campaign regulations, while the Independent Election Commission is the
authority mandated with deciding the date on which campaigning starts.
Election campaigns
of the March 22 elections kicked off on Monday, in accordance will end 24 hours
prior to election day.
Candidates for the
GAM Council must be 25 years old, must have been Jordanian for at least 10
years, and must not have been convicted of a felony or filed for bankruptcy.
Candidates are also
forbidden from being members of non-Jordanian political parties and must also
receive permission from the municipality to stand for election.
If standing members of the GAM Council or those employed at
a public institution wish to run for election, they must resign from their
position 30 days prior to filing their candidacy.
