AMMAN — The
Jordanian Traffic Administration reported on Monday that traffic accidents in
Jordan claim one life every 16 hours. In a text message sent to many Jordanian
citizens, they further highlighted that a
traffic accident occurs roughly every
2 hours and 17 minutes in the country.

They went on to
explain that approximately every 31 minutes, someone sustains injuries in these
traffic incidents. Shockingly, over the last five years, Jordan has witnessed
2,826
fatalities resulting from such accidents.
According to the
Supreme Council for Population, traffic accidents stand as the third leading
cause of death in Jordan, following cardiovascular diseases and cancer, Amman
Net reported.
The financial toll
of these traffic accidents in Jordan reached approximately JD322 million in
2022, as per statistics from the
Public Security Directorate.
Digging deeper
into the data, the cumulative cost of
traffic accidents over the past five
years totaled JD1.6 billion, with specific figures for each year being JD313
million in 2018, JD324 million in 2019, JD296 million in 2020, JD320 million in
2021, and JD322 million in 2022.
