AMMAN — A
two-week training course on the preventive conservation of mosaics at
archaeological sites was launched Monday in the presence of Princess Dana
Firas, President of the Petra National Trust and
UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador for
Cultural Heritage.

Agency, Petra, said the course brought together conservation and restoration
experts.
It was held by the
Department of Antiquities, in partnership with the Getty Conservation Institute
and the International Center for the Study of the Preservation and Restoration
of Cultural Property.
It focuses on two
strategic and sustainable methods for preserving archaeological sites:
protective shelters and reburial.
Participants in the course
will learn complex techniques that can contribute to providing a more stable
environment for vulnerable archaeological historical sites through a field
visit to Jerash, Umm al-Rasas, and Madaba, which feature marvelous mosaics.
