Media spokesperson at the
Ministry of Water and Irrigation, Omar Salameh, told Jordan News that "the
project will include many regions of the Kingdom."
The Ministry of Water
and Irrigation, the Ministry of Awqaf, and
GIZ are jointly holding the program,
under the title "Increasing the storage capacity of water in homes and
reducing water loss."
The program aims to empower
women in facing the water challenge and help spread a culture of water
conservation.
Eman Al-Abadi, one of
the trainers and owner of Jahezoun Plumbing Company, told Jordan News: "I
learned plumbing in 2011 and I had a great passion for this profession. I used
to work in the field of cosmetics before."
Abadi added that the
number of women turning out for the course has so far exceeded previous
numbers. The last session had 15 available seats and more than 20 women have
registered for the course, Abadi said, adding that this might indicate a change
in the societal views, especially in the countryside and villages.
Other trainings have
taken place Mafraq and Ajloun.
Ateka Al-Momani, who
works and has eight children, said: "I registered for this course without
hesitation, and it is very important for women. The house needs regular
maintenance, and this requires large sums of money. My husband and my family
encouraged me a lot."
She advised all women
to take the course and asked GIZ to make a video showing the turnout of women
from the local community to encourage more people to sign up.
