Of the total, 23 were among children aged 12 to 17
years, it said.
Recently, the government approved a provision in the new
penal code, which stipulates a fine of no more than JD100, imprisonment for a
period not exceeding six months, of both penalties for anyone attempting suicide
in public spaces.
Sociologist Hussain Al-Khuzaie said the number of
suicides in the past two years “indicate that there has been no real progress
in addressing the causes and factors that might prompt a person to think about
committing suicide and actually committing it”.
